Yes, microbes are very similar to other organisms in that they move to areas where food and other necessities are available or plentiful. Microbes that find their way onto traditional plastic might begin to consume it but would more likely disdain it in favor of easier food. We believe that un-treated plastic might take hundreds of years to be completely digested by microbes.
